As of January 2024, URCade has arrived to PCs as well.
Important NOTES
The system does not come with any ROMs.
The team is not responsible for what people do with these tools.
This is just a ready-to-use base system, and it is developed using open-source and home-brewed tools :)
The system was initially created in 2016, as an exercise on dealing with Raspberry Pi and its Raspbian OS. As it evolved, a few tools were written to help with automation. A project was born and URCade became an entire SDK for building ready-to-use Pi images.
On January 1st, 2024, the developers decided to extend URCade's arms to the PC as well, adding the proper features to its tools. This page contains the final images, which can be flashed to a Pi unit, or installed to a 64bit PC.
The system is based on RaspiOS (Debian), but features its own additions, which include:
- Two Custom kernels [Pi version]:
- Optimised low-latency desktop;
- One for 2G/2G memory split model;
- One for 3G/1G memory split model (default for URCade);
- Rumble pack support (only works with emulators that support it);
- Sound controlling tool.
Allows one to take fine grained control over the sound system, including basic functionality as (play, stop, enable, disable), as well as 2 ways for controlling the volume (from preset or interactively). It also allows to manage dependencies.; - Sound daemon controlling tool
This one is just a "quick switch" for background music. - External USB device controlling tool
Whenever an USB device is plugged into URCade the system will automatically mount and configure the device to be used as the new location for all the ROMs the user might have.
This tool lets the user manage this behavior, including the capability to disable it.
In addition, the user can also use the tool to "prepare" new devices for use with URCade.
The USB Management Tool supports EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, XFS, FAT, NTFS; - A tool that allows the user to swap between the two kernels available [Pi version];
-
Many other tools are available, like Collection creation, theme management, and much more!
Just have a look at the RetroPie menu once you boot the system. :) - For the command line lovers, URCade also has some helpfull tools inside the ~/bin directory. Just give them a try ;);
